The life sciences degree is a general course that gives students a broad foundation of skills regardless of their choice of specialisation. This multidisciplinary education allows students to gradually develop their personal and professional plans. In the first year, all students follow a common core. From the second year, the course is based on a common core foundation and on teaching units specific to the specialisation chosen by the student.
The course offers a typical foundation in Biology and Toxicology of the Environment with three possible specialisations:
- The specialisation in cell biology and physiology aims to strengthen the knowledge base in the fields of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, neurophysiology, and animal and plant physiology. This specialisation takes place in Albi only during the second year. Students who have successfully completed the second year at INUC will automatically be admitted to the third year of the Life Sciences Cell Biology and Physiology course at the University of Toulouse III. Also, the content of these teachings was established in consultation with the heads of the Toulouse Life Sciences course in order to ensure that the prerequisites for the third year Bachelor of Life Sciences are present in the Albi course as well.
- The specialisation in biology and toxicology of the environment starts in the third semester and ends in the sixth. This specialisation unique at INU Champollion gradually addresses the following different aspects: (i) structural (anatomy, morphology, systematic), (ii) functional (growth, nutrition, adaptations to environments and interactions)) and iii) evolutionary (phylogeny, evolutionary biology, population genetics). It brings together biology and the physiology of organisms as well as ecology and ecotoxicology. The aim of this course is the mastery of knowledge in the biology of populations and ecosystems and to understand the effects of major pollutants (of artificial or natural origin) on organisms, populations, and ecosystems.
- The specialisation towards the teaching profession is shared throughout INU Champollion. It prepares students for entrance into the Master of Teaching, Education, and Training. It starts in the second year of the bachelor’s degree and continues through the sixth semester.
